The financial centre of Canada and one of North America’s top cultural hubs, Toronto is a world-class city with thriving industries spanning technology, science, media, sports and entertainment, not-for-profit, telecommunications and more.
A lot has changed in Toronto since 2013, when Social Media Week last took place here. Social Media practitioners are on the rise, assuming increasingly senior positions in leading global organizations. Universities and colleges now offer social media programs, and while social media expertise is abundant here, we found a significant appetite for a dedicated forum that brings practitioners, service providers, technology companies, students and end users together for a dialogue about social media, society, business and technology.
SMWi Toronto will stand apart from the rest by putting the city front and centre. SMWiTO will not only be an industry event, it will be a festival celebrating the importance of social media in Toronto life.
Our interpretation of the 2016 Global SMW theme is that there are incredible synergies happening in Toronto with major collective benefit as a result of all the individual efforts of practitioners, students, customers, technology developers and service providers. We understand that as we strive towards creative solutions to real-world and business problems, we are in some cases creating more problems. But we also see those new challenges as opportunities, feeding an endless cycle of innovation and collaboration. We plan to explore these underlying themes in #SMWiTO content and programming.
At Pinch Social, we believe that Social Media and digital marketing are all about helping brands, personalities and organizations reach people. Ultimately, we view the Invisible Hand as a net positive force that is continuously extending our global reach as a world-class city.
